Settle

Settle in Curaçao as a company or as a person.

Two distinct paths, one jurisdiction. Onchain Island provides orientation and makes introductions — we are not a corporate service provider, law firm or tax adviser; we connect you to licensed ones and give you the facts to brief them well.

Who this is for: Digital-asset & fintech companies Companies expanding into LatAm & the Caribbean Founders & investors considering relocation

For companies

Set up a company

Incorporate under Dutch-derived civil law with rates from 2% effective for qualifying exporters — inside a real jurisdiction, not a brass-plate one.

For individuals

Settle as an individual

Residency where digital assets count toward the requirement — ending, if you want it to, in citizenship of an EU-member kingdom. No purchased passport offers that.

For individuals

A future-proof residency with a path to full EU citizenship.

Europe's border is tightening: the Schengen Entry/Exit System (EES) now records every non-EU arrival, and ETIAS will add pre-travel authorisation. Dutch citizens are exempt from both.

Curaçao is where a dollar-pegged Caribbean residency leads to that citizenship — and where we are building the framework for digital-asset holdings to count toward the investor requirement.

01

Residency

Qualifying digital-asset holdings count toward the investor-residency requirement.

02

Permanent residency

After the qualifying period of lawful residence on the island.

03

Citizenship

Naturalisation as a citizen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands — an EU-member kingdom.

For companies

Setting up a company: the five steps

01

Entity structure

Choose the vehicle that fits the activity — B.V., E-zone company, investment company or private foundation. This choice drives tax treatment, substance requirements and banking.

02

Incorporation & registration

Notarial deed, Chamber of Commerce registration, tax registration. Timelines are indicative and depend on your service providers.

03

Banking & payment rails

Local and international account options, plus crypto-friendly EMIs. Start this workstream first — it is usually the longest.

04

Substance, staffing & permits

Office, local directorship and staffing options; residence and work permits for relocating founders and staff.

05

Ongoing compliance

Annual accounts, tax filings, and — for VASPs — identification and unusual-transaction reporting under LID / MOT.

Structuring options

Four common vehicles

Entity Typical use Headline rate Note
Curaçao B.V. Operating company 15% / 22% 15% on the first XCG 500,000 (2024 rates). Territorial system: foreign costs reduce the real tax burden proportionally, so the effective rate is often far lower
E-zone company Export of goods & services 2% effective Qualifying export activity only
Curaçao Investment Company Holding & investment 0% Conditions apply — specialist advice essential
Private foundation Asset protection & estate planning 0% No profit tax on passive holding activity

Indicative only — confirm current rates and conditions with a licensed tax adviser.

Not the easiest path. The most rewarding one.

There are jurisdictions that will sell you a passport faster and ask fewer questions. What they can't offer is what Curaçao ends in: a company under Dutch-derived civil law with a court of final appeal in the Dutch Supreme Court, and — for individuals — citizenship of an EU-member kingdom. Both paths demand real substance and real presence. That's precisely why they hold their value.
